First Reconciliation and First Eucharist

The sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist are usually received for the first time when a child is in 2nd grade, around the age of 8 years.  This age is considered the "age of reason" when a child can begin to tell the difference between right and wrong.  For this reason, the children are introduced to Reconciliation (also known as Confession).

Preparation for taking the Eucharist involves both 1st and 2nd grade religious education.  Your child should be in a Catholic Religious Education program in the 1st grade, if not sooner.  We offer Kindergarten sessions at St. James in our program.  Please call for more information.
